The Battle Against Public Corruption

1/27/2013

I attend the lawyer's lunch with the Ethics Commission each month.  Joseph Centorino is the executive director of the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics and Public Trust.  The Commission does a good job educating lawyers that represent local governments.  I enjoy the lunches because I look at it as a lawyer and as a public official.  The speakers are always interesting.

Mr. Centorino does not only educate lawyers, he also crusades for the enactment and enforcement of ethics provisions.  Our current laws are weak and do not do enough.  In his most recent opinion piece, he concluded with the following:

Public servants do not need to be heroes. They need to treat people honestly and fairly and act as loyal employees to earn their constituents’ respect. But they also need to understand the public’s frustration toward government due to improper appearances that lie beyond enforcement. Everyone in public service today faces that challenge.

Well said, Mr. Centorino, well said.

We received exciting news this week.  After careful consideration, and with a great deal of help from my friends and neighbors, I officially qualified as a candidate for Mayor of Miami Springs.

Now, we only have to work hard during the campaign and educate our voters of the real, substantive issues facing our community.  I am eagerly looking forward to the campaign.

If you would like to assist me, the most important thing to do is go out and vote on April 2, 2013.   The next best thing is to get involved with the campaign.  We are actively seeking volunteers to help with the campaign - please drop me an email at [email protected] to let us know you're in!

Finally, we will be raising money to help get our message out.  To contribute to my campaign, please send your check (note, $500 is the maximum allowable contribution) to:
Jennifer Ator Campaign, 901 Falcon Avenue, Miami Springs, FL  33166, or donate here via paypal. Please don't forget to include your name, address, phone number, and occupation on the check.

Many volunteers are preparing for Movie Night and a Food Truck Rally to support the All Angels Academy Building Fund.  Everyone is welcome, and there is no admission for the movie if you want to bring your own snack.  All Angels Church will sell popcorn, sodas, and other snacks as well.  We hope to see you there.

    Beautiful
    Miami Springs.

Beautiful Miami Springs.  There is no place like it.  THANK YOU for re-electing me to our City Council in April 2011.  It is going to be difficult to share information with our residents during or after Council meetings.  As a result, I will post to my blog often: Council items, neighborhood happenings, local events.  Please subscribe, bookmark the site, and visit often.
