I live in Miami and fly primarily on American (there is not much of a choice). And, I think that flying into MIA is somewhat like being in line at Publix -- there are lots of flights into MIA and you never know what one is going to move the fastest.
So today I am in Chicago and my flight at 4 pm is going to have a "decision" at 5:10 (which I had to find some nice gate agent to tell me). There are two other flights after the 4 pm flight, so the decision is, do I move to a later flight or wait it out.
The very nice gate agent confirmed me on the later flight but left my boarding pass so I would have the choice (not sure how that works, but I will take it).
Indeed, at 5:10 the 4 pm flight moved to 6:45. Today I think I made the right decision by "switching lines.". However, I am still in Chicago and switching lines has never, ever, ever worked for me, so we will see what happens.
